Pull Up a Chair:
An Artistic Journey Through Downtown Leeds

Scott Harvey
Painter, Illustrator, Digital Artist, Marketer
Biography:
Hello, my name is Scott Harvey. I’m a local artist to Leeds, Alabama, for the last 20 years. I hold degrees in both Fine Art and Graphic Design from Stetson University, and a Master of Business Administration from UAB. I’m currently in graduate school again at UAB for a Master of Education to become a high school art teacher. I want to give back to our kids what I’ve learned in my career and help teach the next generations of artists, designers, and marketers the secrets to success I’ve learned in my field.
Key themes in my work often comprise of nature, animals, and landscapes. Many of my illustrations are multimedia combining watercolor, acrylic, fine art markers, and ink. I strive to use archival mediums and materials to increase the longevity of my work. Most of my paintings on canvas are acrylic using several brush styles to achieve the finished product. Bristol Board paper is my favorite material to illustrate on as I prefer the smooth tooth and zero gain with inks and fine color markers that it provides.
Exhibitions & Achievements:
I’ve competed in many art competitions from county fairs to the national level. I would say my most notable achievement is holding the most consecutive first place / best in show wins in the “Florida National Duck Stamp,” competition. I won three years in a row and have had my work displayed in the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum in Washington, DC.
Statement & Philosophy:
My philosophy has always been to provide the observer with something to enjoy and appreciate. I have no deep introspective meaning behind my artwork. I simply want to add joy to those who appreciate art for what it is…pure human creativity. I see the finished artwork in my head, and it pours out onto the paper or canvas. I generally create artwork for my own enjoyment. If it happens to make you smile as well, I’m happy to have done my job. So pull up a chair, sit a while, and enjoy the creativity.
